OUR FOUNDERS STORY
COURTROOMs,
Boxing RINGs and boardrooms
Manchester- born Marnie Swindells turned to boxing when she was 17 years old after years of carrying the anger she felt from losing her father. As she pounded the bags, for the first time in her life she felt freedom and a sense of release.
When she turned 18 she packed her bags and headed for London where she gravitated towards the only thing she knew would feel familiar; a boxing club. Despite being the only girl in the gym she was embraced with open arms and even though she was hundreds of miles away from Manchester, she had never felt more at home.
For the following 6 years she competed as a gold-medal winning boxer, award nominated coach and even a promoter giving her a sense of accomplishment she could never have imagined would come from boxing. It was even at the local boxing club where she met a barrister who inspired and encouraged her to follow a career in law, and just two years later Marnie Swindells was Called to the Bar.
Who knew the humble boxing gym would have been the cornerstone for all these momentous moments which changed the trajectory of her life forever; from a grieving 17 year old girl, to a boxing champion turned coach, to a barrister and now a businesswoman – boxing had been the key behind it all. Bronx was born from the realisation that boxing clubs are about so much more than boxing, they are about unearthing your potential, discovering opportunities and finding a sense of belonging that extends far beyond boxing.
